Two years ago, a hereditary condition took a sudden turn and I had to get open heart surgery. Things were really rolling that year - I had a show in Chelsea (George Billis Gallery) as well as Las Vegas (Trifecta Gallery) and Milwaukee (Luckystar Gallery), and had paintings in group shows in LA (La Luz de Jesus) and Seattle (Roq La Rue Gallery). I also had an artists residency at the Julia & David White Art Colony in Costa Rica.
I started some new pieces at the residency, but when I came back I had to concentrate on finishing work for upcoming shows. Then I got sick and had to get the surgery. I was told that it’s very helpful in recovery to set up goals, and my main one was to get back to the work I started in Costa Rica. Enclosed are the results.
Done in earthtone and then glazed with color, these images explore peoples’ relation to society and themselves. How do they deal with the ups and downs of daily life? their own unique qualities and burdens? and the environments they create, or are forced to exist in? - these pieces are a visual exploration into existentialism. |
